Making your own peanut butter is super easy. You can buy bulk peanuts
at a grocery store or Costco (I buy them in the bulk bins at the Giant
Eagle Market District at Settler's Ridge - love those bulk bins!). I
buy the XL roasted peanuts without salt. Just dump them in the food
processor and turn it on high and stand back and watch the magic!
Process until it is as smooth as you want.</div>

That's it! Add salt to taste. You can add honey, cinnamon or whatever
else takes your fancy. You can do the exact same thing with almonds,
cashews, and sunflower seeds or whatever you like.Barefoot_Daydreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09912552921395183254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15600418.post-81349095827879214982014-02-10T10:57:00.003-05:002014-02-10T10:57:54.162-05:00Condensed Milk Painting<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I found this idea on Pinterest awhile back while looking for ideas for entertaining the kids.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The older Little Man likes to paint. A lot.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He would paint everyday if I would let him.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is a super easy thing to do, however, if you don't want condensed milk everywhere, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I suggest towels on the floor and close supervision. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It didn't take long before we were painting on our bellies.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That is usually the best way to paint, according the the younger Little Man.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Bath time immediately afterwards is necessary, at least at our house,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
but that just means that you can start painting</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
faux goatees and temporary tattoos, courtesy of Daddy.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
They had a blast, so we'll most likely do it again.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Outside sounds like a grand idea.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway, just mix food coloring into condensed milk. The mini muffin pan worked great.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It takes rather a long time to dry, but it dries thick and glossy. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It stays sticky for awhile, though, so you can't really stack them up afterwards.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Don't leave them on the floor, or your dog will try to lick the paint off. Ha ha. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It sort of crystallized a bit after awhile too, so I scanned these in order to save them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am thinking I'll put a selection of our paintings into the annual photo album,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I won't have to feel guilty about tossing them at some point.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As you can see from the last photo, there was plenty of paint left, </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
so one can is more than enough.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I've been quilting some more. It just takes me a lot more time that it used to!<br />
<br />
After I made <a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2013/04/i-made-quilt.html">this quilt</a> for my nephew, I figured I'd make a couple more for my kiddos. They liked the puppy on it and were excited about having one themselves.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOpJuYBwo5TB_Ur46l_6IcXMz5UKXbfB7dkn7xLyPT-dnA07Kesvnk-fNtyLDzwlspqHS8h0Ktqi6A_1NE0EQJo3cvDX9djIby3VIXkvIHaVactCwlvxcwQXo3PQWifKZXIhiV/s1600/IMG_9641.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOpJuYBwo5TB_Ur46l_6IcXMz5UKXbfB7dkn7xLyPT-dnA07Kesvnk-fNtyLDzwlspqHS8h0Ktqi6A_1NE0EQJo3cvDX9djIby3VIXkvIHaVactCwlvxcwQXo3PQWifKZXIhiV/s1600/IMG_9641.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVSwQ5UyF7Zs7WLMZhOTBm0bOMqw-vTS_Q2_WQ_uv4YTH6g6MsvIfo5DqwnKJrbxZXbX55pa81KdW_PSLwbzmFdaxw5BNHfEiSjBLP0PJegU0ugV_S7bs9fY7fmS00QXwHLl0U/s1600/IMG_9645.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVSwQ5UyF7Zs7WLMZhOTBm0bOMqw-vTS_Q2_WQ_uv4YTH6g6MsvIfo5DqwnKJrbxZXbX55pa81KdW_PSLwbzmFdaxw5BNHfEiSjBLP0PJegU0ugV_S7bs9fY7fmS00QXwHLl0U/s1600/IMG_9645.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
It is pretty easy and quick to put together the top. This time I hand stitched on the applique and I embroidered their names on the bottom. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy5yINyuxAHIruXls7mI2BwDmGtFCL9CbU5clI3HmFBlJkAsBI8W2rCIY1-kNOj8JURG3_Ad_xuJNcxlfCtm44MAnRQRwkwyu0102VwlGdoTKS-u9DjGA-xFZEn_gw7OCAZFOm/s1600/IMG_9646.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjy5yINyuxAHIruXls7mI2BwDmGtFCL9CbU5clI3HmFBlJkAsBI8W2rCIY1-kNOj8JURG3_Ad_xuJNcxlfCtm44MAnRQRwkwyu0102VwlGdoTKS-u9DjGA-xFZEn_gw7OCAZFOm/s1600/IMG_9646.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I had trouble with quilting the first one. The top just kept wanting to shift down, so by the time I got to the bottom edge, it had shifted a good half inch or so. What in the world? I swear I used to be better at this quilting thing. I finally figured out that I needed to adjust the pressure dial and I took it the whole way down to zero before it seemed to work okay. It turned out alright, though. I just had to trim the sides down a little more than I wanted to.<br />

<br />
And wouldn't you know it? The older Little Man didn't even want his quilt. In fact, he came right out and said so and he wanted it off his bed. I was annoyed with him so I asked if I should just throw it away then. He said yes. So I folded it up and its been in my closet ever since. The younger Little Man could care less about his either. Figures. They really would rather have "cozy" blankets instead. Whatever.<br />
<br />
To be fair, he does have <a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2013/04/solid-quilt.html">the hand quilted quilt </a>on his bed and he's perfectly happy with it. Perhaps he just couldn't see a reason for having another one.<br />

I have finished another quilt. Amazing! Actually, the sad thing is that I finished this quilt a month ago. Ha ha. I'm just now posting it.<br />
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinA3wJTd6lyvXfgfGLEGPRuzTjbraDg3ddn1hK-WsjyqGXI9lBc0VUpSPdoPMiSEJdcqgiI_VbU8AiZ9TUjXGqKngeOlnaKrkiyBaXY_J6zA90smi8R8fL4lbKknFMgPpcRrImYw/s1600/IMG_6594.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinA3wJTd6lyvXfgfGLEGPRuzTjbraDg3ddn1hK-WsjyqGXI9lBc0VUpSPdoPMiSEJdcqgiI_VbU8AiZ9TUjXGqKngeOlnaKrkiyBaXY_J6zA90smi8R8fL4lbKknFMgPpcRrImYw/s1600/IMG_6594.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2008/02/i-am-on-roll.html">I made this quilt once before</a>, but I ended up giving it to my sister when she got married 3 years ago. I would have made her one, but I knew there was no way I'd get it finished in time with a one-year-old and a job, so I gave her mine and started another one to replace it for myself. So yeah. Its been sitting around my house since 2010. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I finished the top in a relatively decent amount of time, since its really not that hard to do. Then I took it up to my parent's house to baste it (they have lots of folding tables around and I like to clamp the bottom and middle layers to the tables and then pin). Then I folded it up and never got around to doing the quilting. When I finally tried it, it was wrinkling up and I felt like the whole thing should be taken apart and re-ironed. Darn.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I did. I took out all those pins and re-ironed the whole darn quilt and got it basted again. This time, my walking foot was doing a terrible job. I bought one online that was supposed to be a Brother foot, but it turned out to be some cheap generic foot. So I bit the bullet and bought a genuine Brother walking foot at a local quilt store and got my machine serviced while I was at it. No more excuses!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It took me so long to finish this quilt that honestly, I would be perfectly happy not to see it again for a good long while. The poor thing was filthy from never having been washed in the last 3 years and laying around in my living room with two dirty little boys for months.</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But it is done! Yay! Just a simple cross hatch again with random lengths of black and white for the binding. I should have taken a few more detail shots of it, but I was so over the whole thing that I didn't bother. Ha ha. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now on to the next unfinished project!</div>
Barefoot_Daydreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09912552921395183254noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15600418.post-44315392510383675992013-05-15T01:43:00.002-04:002013-05-15T01:43:30.633-04:00Crib Sheets<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is something else that I've been making.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since I don't have a whole lot of time for making anything any more, I love making crib sheets. They are super simple and super fast. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It is very difficult to find fabric that is appropriate for boys anyway, and finding prints that are gray on white is rather difficult as well, so when I find some, I snag it for a sheet or two. I've been making so many that I am now well-stocked for <i>both</i> the crib and the toddler bed. Yay!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicLZHx_Ufwlv4R38h_kC2IDKgs-iYvrf42EwWE71yEPY88JcYXoRvsmWkISBbbRFuSi3zJxspg0AWbNkmjQMML4GasTQW1u8yD_LS9nmVXDmYrVFdND8D8hQR-If41KhMfVrWZOQ/s1600/IMG_3025.jpg" /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: x-small;">Fabric from top: Michael Miller Dumb Dot Haze, WalMart sheet set, Metro Living<span style="font-size: x-small;"> Circles Grey, Hobby Lobby, ?</span> </span></div>
<br />
There are many different instructions out there for making crib sheets, but this is my method:<br />
<br />
The toddler bed we have measures 27 x 51. When I buy fabric, I measure the width. Whatever the difference in width between the fabric and the mattress is added to the length and half of that measurement is the measurement of the square to cut out of the corner. <br />
<br />
So if the fabric is 44" wide, I add 17" to the length. So I would cut my fabric to 44" x 68". This also means that a 8.5" square is cut out of the corners.<br />
<br />
If the fabric is 45" wide, I add 18" to the length and cut it to 45" x 69" and cut a 9" square from the corners. See? Simple.<br />
<br />
I sew a french seam in the corners, which just means that you sew a 1/8" seam with wrong sides together, and then turn it out and sew a 1/4" seam with right sides together. This way your raw edge is enclosed in the seam and there will be no fraying with the frequent washing the sheet will get.<br />
<br />
Then fold the raw edges of the sheet up a scant 1/4" and iron, and then up a generous 1/4" and iron again. Sew around and insert 1/4" elastic.<br />
<br />
Easy.<br />
<br />
I also discovered that a twin sized sheet set can be cut up to be made into two fitted sheets and one flat sheet and of course, the pillow case is already included. I got <a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2013/04/solid-quilt.html">the sheets in the last post</a> from a sheet set at WalMart and if I remember correctly, it was in the back-to-school section for $15. Score!<br />
<br />
It is a little weird that I get so excited about this. But seriously. Its impossible to find bedding for them that I'd actually want. So yay!Barefoot_Daydreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09912552921395183254noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15600418.post-34682331590007794152013-04-27T23:59:00.004-04:002013-04-28T00:07:13.466-04:00Solid QuiltHey! Look at this. Two posts in one month! Its a miracle!<br />
<br />
I finished another quilt though. Are you shocked? Me too...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAWpB3RZh0hnDxU4rAkMy83-Iys3TjtF765bgFk5d2sWdC3PLSlR5kbkn6rSy-75g2wIQVFmJoCZOcTb6yIAAhnyQ38CSrkZAmRJLOCPrBuDfcXUkIzYQsiIqUIHFYhjeyecux1A/s1600/IMG_3638.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAWpB3RZh0hnDxU4rAkMy83-Iys3TjtF765bgFk5d2sWdC3PLSlR5kbkn6rSy-75g2wIQVFmJoCZOcTb6yIAAhnyQ38CSrkZAmRJLOCPrBuDfcXUkIzYQsiIqUIHFYhjeyecux1A/s1600/IMG_3638.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This one I started ages ago. I wish I could remember just when, but it may have been before my first son was born (nearly 4 years ago!). It was intended for him. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdAcenM5w-Lfo6INdrSRWe4yoE2_ZQwi2TlEb0H4heeZ5QiY3xhZO5BQ4JhVcVepOmzAWyHB0oylspT2cp0g6yydFU8nVCxOb0fbC6t0eBnRtcCDOO0-me7F5kbe0UiZTGGB-4Sw/s1600/IMG_3637.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdAcenM5w-Lfo6INdrSRWe4yoE2_ZQwi2TlEb0H4heeZ5QiY3xhZO5BQ4JhVcVepOmzAWyHB0oylspT2cp0g6yydFU8nVCxOb0fbC6t0eBnRtcCDOO0-me7F5kbe0UiZTGGB-4Sw/s1600/IMG_3637.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a blatant copy of a quilt that I have loved at <a href="http://www.serenaandlily.com/">Serena & Lily</a> - their <a href="http://www.serenaandlily.com/Bedding/Quilts-Slate-Bay-Blue-Cabin-Quilt">Slate/Bay Blue Cabin Quilt.</a> They have several colors, but this one was my favorite.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxIOkgNJ8Ln2JD-DcErTXUEKlz2Ft_26Y_iiZLIbyQQdukkHd1kVzIzvWz_BrdFvMqnXjPPc2Qj-8e7mhCwGQByD5nHIdkghQXwEuzKBCqfSn1dhvWuLmie6KBK0JdMYyax152pg/s1600/IMG_3645.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxIOkgNJ8Ln2JD-DcErTXUEKlz2Ft_26Y_iiZLIbyQQdukkHd1kVzIzvWz_BrdFvMqnXjPPc2Qj-8e7mhCwGQByD5nHIdkghQXwEuzKBCqfSn1dhvWuLmie6KBK0JdMYyax152pg/s1600/IMG_3645.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
In order to have the same look, it had to be hand quilted. I wasn't quite sure how to baste for hand quilting, so I bought some fusible (I think it was fusible?) batting. I smoothed the layers together and carefully ironed them. I was concerned about it being annoying to quilt or how well it would hold together, but it actually worked quite well. I did have to re-iron it once or twice after getting some of the middle section quilted, but it stuck back down and there were no real problems. Perhaps hand quilting is a little more forgiving?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5fkogYq8VuFALqozto73tlfCtPjYUzGWQQrbgn9MAQThuEWG4mdf6N1mVRsuUTRyATkzEtMpguWVr4QDnApMa35GluiavRui81DcrzLMI9z5YZPRGl2Ck3_lMaDAt8irurp6VDw/s1600/IMG_3648.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5fkogYq8VuFALqozto73tlfCtPjYUzGWQQrbgn9MAQThuEWG4mdf6N1mVRsuUTRyATkzEtMpguWVr4QDnApMa35GluiavRui81DcrzLMI9z5YZPRGl2Ck3_lMaDAt8irurp6VDw/s1600/IMG_3648.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I used some 1" painter's tape to mark out the rows and then I quilted beside them with some pearl cotton. It comes in several thicknesses, and I chose a thinner one, but I can't remember what size exactly. That's the problem with taking so long to complete a project, isn't it?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBP-uOMEVl0Q67veVE_CHPud-Ox5V8dPnFCs2AljEXgZs1WdWr4e6dmw3Vb5iF3u0ihCxlOFUmbOgipUoHYjjzcBbdDUZsxRPUGUB8BnYJRMC5Ur8JLbG6dnb3m6klYl24oJ2cZQ/s1600/IMG_3631.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBP-uOMEVl0Q67veVE_CHPud-Ox5V8dPnFCs2AljEXgZs1WdWr4e6dmw3Vb5iF3u0ihCxlOFUmbOgipUoHYjjzcBbdDUZsxRPUGUB8BnYJRMC5Ur8JLbG6dnb3m6klYl24oJ2cZQ/s1600/IMG_3631.jpg" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
It is approximately 45 x 60, but I did have to trim some off the sides to make the quilting line up right with the binding. It turned out perfectly, though, and I and I am contemplating making a matching sham to go with it. I might have to buy more fabric and I can't remember exactly what colors I used. Kona coal gray maybe? Who knows what the blue was. I might have some extra of that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid7aTumQvtAVdnfZKmQXuOn8TQhGenk8VNsszbOVjqzZ6_Pzjk2aGIg5itWT6e9RnmX_zvdc4Ih_dSs4ToSe1LlPli3JPhZ_LXB6kZaGJMv7TSaPm0pT1Vfv37t6N9QefvxYf0FQ/s1600/IMG_3629.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEid7aTumQvtAVdnfZKmQXuOn8TQhGenk8VNsszbOVjqzZ6_Pzjk2aGIg5itWT6e9RnmX_zvdc4Ih_dSs4ToSe1LlPli3JPhZ_LXB6kZaGJMv7TSaPm0pT1Vfv37t6N9QefvxYf0FQ/s1600/IMG_3629.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I finished it at midnight and threw it in the wash (who can wait?). I was a little concerned about the thread, but it is just fine and turned out wonderfully wrinkled. Yay! I shocked myself by putting it on his bed the same night and it is still there. Do you have any idea how much time is in this quilt? I figure approximately 50ish hours. Yeah. I might be crazy to give it to him. <br />
<br />

<br />
So now I should really make another one for his brother, shouldn't I? It seems wrong to give such a wonderfully hand made quilt to one son and not another, doesn't it? Wonder how old he will be when I finish. 10? 15? Ha ha. <br />

Sadly enough, I think its been two years since <a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2011/07/houndstooth-quilt.html">my last one</a>. Two. Yikes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This one was for my sister-in-law. She had their first baby, a boy, in January. She was doing her nursery in gray/white/yellow, so this is what I came up with. It was inspired by <a href="http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/alligator-madras-nursery-bedding/?pkey=bboys-nursery-bedding&">this striped alligator quilt</a> at PB Kids. </div>

<br />
The puppy image I found in an image search and it was an embroidery design that I enlarged and used as an applique instead.<br />
<br />

<br />
It was my first time doing machine applique and it was atrocious. I did, however, have lots of help from two eager little boys who were intrigued by the idea of their Unkem Tim having a baby boy (our first boy cousin!) and they really liked the puppy on this quilt. I did the applique with a little boy on my lap who was very excited to be helping.<br />

<br />
The back of the quilt was done with a<a href="https://www.etsy.com/transaction/101086082"> Riley Blake's willow dots fabric.</a> I loved the tiny pale gray polka dots and I did a matching crib sheet with it as well (which you can sorta see in the first two pictures).<br />
<br />

<br />
I really liked the stripe quilt so much (and so did the boys) that I've decided to make them their own versions. I've got the tops made and the puppies are half stitched on. I just need to get some more of the polka dot fabric for the back. We'll see how long it takes me to finish those!Barefoot_Daydreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09912552921395183254noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15600418.post-66675734203335559742013-03-09T12:45:00.002-05:002013-03-09T12:48:01.729-05:00Embroidered Kid's Plush BlanketI was making a last minute run to the store to get supplies for our customer Christmas gifts for work when I spotted a bin of little blankets for $5 at Walmart. I don't buy many gifts for the kids because they have plenty of stuff and we had already bought them their big gift - a Lionel electric train for around the tree. I really only had books, PJs and a few odds and ends bought for them, so I decided to grab these as well.<br />
<br />
What I really wanted to buy them was one of these <a href="http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/sherpa-stroller-blanket/?pkey=cbaby-essentials-blankets">Sherpa Stroller Blankets at Pottery Barn</a>, but by the time you add monogramming and shipping, it seems a little silly.<br />
<br />
When I spotted these little cheap-o blankets, though, it occurred to me that I could monogram them. I really should have grabbed a few more for gifts for nieces and nephews, but I didn't. Maybe if I see any similar items again I will do that, because I think they would make for nice gifts. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisqX_zgROc6uoqG3IWhhv0RziJqIbPQhZNdhrdAevH2Ic923ooRs-09ZnSnOzNeBrkea1_M4rOjoUHXDKPjlQranRNNsE6ZDQsHcSuY89SdYPXV-hOsBG0Yq1BwJYRnoFBLL8Sgw/s1600/IMG_0562.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisqX_zgROc6uoqG3IWhhv0RziJqIbPQhZNdhrdAevH2Ic923ooRs-09ZnSnOzNeBrkea1_M4rOjoUHXDKPjlQranRNNsE6ZDQsHcSuY89SdYPXV-hOsBG0Yq1BwJYRnoFBLL8Sgw/s640/IMG_0562.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Christmas time is crazy busy for me, so these were monogrammed in my basement at 1:00 AM on Christmas Eve while I made my poor husband blow up a bunch of balloons to have scattered around when the kids got up in the morning. Procrastinate much? Ha!</div>
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGp9S3OPdVk6LiZ6JgUVjCl3RURdi51ARlPlohSM8CW_7cmpq4AWFe-mHoqmHyjfJ9Dmfbcf5cm6ruezgOCI1Cl9w6aZz-j9Tk5I9x-zbA_duPWq7mM6_zDvNkkExgCHnjhfThcA/s1600/IMG_1967.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGp9S3OPdVk6LiZ6JgUVjCl3RURdi51ARlPlohSM8CW_7cmpq4AWFe-mHoqmHyjfJ9Dmfbcf5cm6ruezgOCI1Cl9w6aZz-j9Tk5I9x-zbA_duPWq7mM6_zDvNkkExgCHnjhfThcA/s640/IMG_1967.jpg" width="640" /> </a><br />
<br />
I really like how they turned out. I was going to attempt their names, but it seemed like over-kill and I was worn out and still had gifts to wrap (of course!). I am never really sure how to make sure the spacing is correct between letters, either. Maybe I should figure that out. So a single-letter monogram it is! Whoops. I'm just too busy to keep up with everything.<br />
<br />
I do have a few things to show you now.<br />
<br />
We are really in to trains at our house and we've amassed quite a collection. The Man and I recently finished making a display box to house all of our trains. Isn't it cool? It was completely inspired by <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/191121577906267317/">this one</a> posted by <a href="http://www.greenkitchen.com/blog/">Green Kitchen</a>. I found her version ages ago and loved it, and every time I showed it to the Little Man, he really liked it too, although I think he was more fascinated by the trains in it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf1KXlV-ihZpT8e4zCIaZhDGItijBDbPMcByXXT328uyLgam8Kqb7UNUhFJFjfuhXVZYO5I0M4Lbr7OekDO4QDk5tZdhDiI9em41LSPlRzFUmgvIi6nJqC05qslHjh7mhi6eL6ZA/s1600/IMG_2740.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhf1KXlV-ihZpT8e4zCIaZhDGItijBDbPMcByXXT328uyLgam8Kqb7UNUhFJFjfuhXVZYO5I0M4Lbr7OekDO4QDk5tZdhDiI9em41LSPlRzFUmgvIi6nJqC05qslHjh7mhi6eL6ZA/s1600/IMG_2740.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
We used a thin sheet of luan for the back and some 1/4" thick poplar boards from the hobby section of Home Depot. I gave The Man the dimensions I wanted it to be and he did the actual construction. He put dividers on each shelf because the wood is pretty flimsy and he was just sure that the two little monkeys would try climbing it. I wouldn't put it past them! I put a few coats of Minwax Provincial stain on it (same color as our floors) and considered trying some sort of grayish glaze to darken/antique it, but I'm calling it good.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ9qh9Ka8QRqCEQUBNmjw4E2wXd0CTJCQKSbZNWWjIwlFi4GHr_ZqdR-9p1WTdYccbEMzxR1nJvKaW3nsajILUj6l-G8-uUiXEeNJgxuvIB2vLkPraBWc-qWBok3O_ES5KNwiebg/s1600/IMG_2742.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZ9qh9Ka8QRqCEQUBNmjw4E2wXd0CTJCQKSbZNWWjIwlFi4GHr_ZqdR-9p1WTdYccbEMzxR1nJvKaW3nsajILUj6l-G8-uUiXEeNJgxuvIB2vLkPraBWc-qWBok3O_ES5KNwiebg/s1600/IMG_2742.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I'd love to keep all the trains in it all the time, organized by color, but that doesn't happen, of course! Ha ha. But at least there is a place for them to be when they aren't being played with. This makes me very happy! <br />
<br />
We store the wooden track in the basket below (yep, that's all track in there!). This box is big enough to hold all of our current trains with room for a few more. At the rate that we are accumulating, though, we are liable to run out of space. It will do the trick for now, at any rate.<br />
<br />

Its the <a href="http://i%20finally%20finished%20a%20project.%20%20can%20you%20believe%20it/?%21">Favorite Hoodie pattern by Lion Brand Yarn</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am proud of myself for actually knitting something, but on the other hand, I didn't quite do that well with it. the knitting is fine, but the reason it took me so long to finish it was the sewing of the seams. I'm not very good at it and I don't know what I'm doing and it shows. My other complaint is that it seems to be rather short. Perhaps it would fit better for a shorter, fatter baby? Ha. My babies aren't exactly thin, though. It seemed a bit tight on his neck.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I am glad I did it, though. I feel like I learned with it. And I'm glad its done. Ha!</div>

Christmas and New Years are over. All of the junk that goes along with the start of a new year (for work me) is done. Spreadsheets are updated, payroll changes done, year-end financials and annual reports done. Audits completed. 1099s out. Taxes submitted to the CPA. Check, check and check!<br /><br />Little brother is going to be six months old in a couple weeks. Really? I'm a little sad that's all gone already. He sleeps wonderfully and he's a smiley happy little guy. I love him to pieces. In a couple weeks, we'll be feeding him <span style="font-style: italic;">real</span> food. This makes me sad. I like baby diapers. I have no idea what a baby on formula smells like, but breast milk diapers don't bother me a bit. Its just part of the baby stage and I suppose will always just remind me of when they were babies. The thing is, I missed having a baby. I didn't realize it, but I did.<br /><br />I am starting to think about baby food though. For being disappointed that he's already at this stage, it seems silly that I am thinking about food already. I bought some brown rice and ground it all up today. I'm starting to think about what else I want to feed him. Making all the baby food is a bit of pain, but I guess that I enjoy it. Actually, I do enjoy it. Its a pain in the butt, but I can actually stuff that little bugger full of fruit and veggies and he doesn't even know enough to wish for anything else. Ha! <br /><br />I can't seem to get my two year old to eat a meal for the life of me. He loves apple sauce, yogurt, peanut butter, Honey Chex, bananas and mangoes. Everything else is hit or miss these days and it frustrates me. I hate cooking, but I want him to eat healthy. It doesn't seem to matter though. He will probably not eat it.<br /><br />I have been dying to get my house cleaned up and organized and have not been making much progress. I'm trying though. <br /><br />I finally got started on getting wills done for The Man and I. Just have to review the initial drafts and get them back to the attorney. We've only been married for 11 years and have 2 kids. What's the hurry? Ha. I will love to have that crossed off my list.<br /><br />I have been meaning to make a budget, since I haven't done one since Big Brother was born. Lame. And its already March. I started on that a week ago and went down a rabbit trail putting together spreadsheets and stayed up till 3 am. Oops. I am a nerd.<br /><br />Anyway, that is some of what I'm thinking about these days. Very exciting.Barefoot_Daydreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09912552921395183254noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15600418.post-91050032335996293072012-02-08T00:42:00.003-05:002012-02-08T00:50:46.399-05:00Another HatOne last baby photo post . . . maybe.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi639P0iBNRmr0pBAc7UX_7ZoDCZ388yfA_mQ2MUsdYCjxzVd13-lcmwY_JOMaJmQjaLf4rmg_lyJhe_C3oWmMRBnJ2VMpQklrse7nKYk2pCIaFDxgZHaOkKxrzdaagG5w4ltJIxg/s1600/IMG_1341.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi639P0iBNRmr0pBAc7UX_7ZoDCZ388yfA_mQ2MUsdYCjxzVd13-lcmwY_JOMaJmQjaLf4rmg_lyJhe_C3oWmMRBnJ2VMpQklrse7nKYk2pCIaFDxgZHaOkKxrzdaagG5w4ltJIxg/s800/IMG_1341.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5706636129490513602" border="0" /></a>I bought <a href="http://www.etsy.com/transaction/13078848">this hat pattern</a> a couple years ago <a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2009/10/hat-for-jack.html">for his big brother</a>. I've made it a ton of times since then, but I always have a hard time getting the sizing right. I crochet too darn tight, I think, and it all depends on the yarn as well. It always wants to be too small. Or maybe my babies have big heads? I think his head size was 90th percentile at the last appointment, so perhaps that is part of the problem.<br /><br />Anyway, this one I made before he was born and it fits just fine. I added a band and buttons this time and I really like how it turned out. So cute. <br /><br />Now, I would really like to make something like <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/191121577906291120/">this</a>. Little brother is sleeping wonderfully - love that kid! - and eating constantly. Big brother is a crazy little monkey and he makes lots of work for his Mama cleaning things up.<br /><br />Work is a bugger from December through January, so I'm running behind on everything right now. Here's hoping that we'll sorta catch up soon.<br /><br />The whole new year thing motivates me to get lots of things accomplished, and it's frustrating as all get out that I never seem to get any of them done. But I have big plans! I intend to clean/purge/organize this house from top to bottom. I doubt that will happen, but I guess we'll see how far I get. I also need to get reacquainted with my treadmill and finish getting rid of the baby weight.<br /><br />But I thought I'd show you a few more pictures of my little monkey. Here's the <a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2011/09/striped-pixie-hats.html">little striped pixie hat that I showed you awhile back.</a> I can't get big brother to cooperate for semi-posed photos for the life of me - he's two after all! - so here's little brother wearing his. These are from back when he was brand new, of course. He's grown a little bit since then!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQTNIQgEIku6mggq5kJkaYq4vUgKFnsiLsS5DzZBxF6JthgLEs2T0aKt9X3dtqCOekMZpgQyDPOCmdBQXD5380hLW5Xx57dKZx5nkOC7CcCLurS3-ztqruKKKCYgz1Q-pffVtTFg/s1600/IMG_1149.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQTNIQgEIku6mggq5kJkaYq4vUgKFnsiLsS5DzZBxF6JthgLEs2T0aKt9X3dtqCOekMZpgQyDPOCmdBQXD5380hLW5Xx57dKZx5nkOC7CcCLurS3-ztqruKKKCYgz1Q-pffVtTFg/s800/IMG_1149.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5700532627840300370" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4XZvn47DXOgoLdUAjn3ivt16apOk7tBU4T9xNBZh9HSgGPmMEkgk7BZgYy2ODuwqP3ye7kYPahE8U8S_wlnt3_B3GOCA0UTLXVM7iEtHtExIU5HbkBdVBArbqgD98roIOxm_Xng/s1600/IMG_1422.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4XZvn47DXOgoLdUAjn3ivt16apOk7tBU4T9xNBZh9HSgGPmMEkgk7BZgYy2ODuwqP3ye7kYPahE8U8S_wlnt3_B3GOCA0UTLXVM7iEtHtExIU5HbkBdVBArbqgD98roIOxm_Xng/s800/IMG_1422.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5700532628706970194" border="0" /></a>I could eat him up! Two months, to be exact. Its a little baffling how much time a new baby takes up. Add it to a house with a busy two-year-old, a part time job for me and sometimes crazy hours for The Man and mix in two dogs, and time gets away from you.<br /><br />Kent Daniel was born on September 19th, one day after his due date. Thankfully, there was no on-again, off-again labor this time, and he was born just 8 hours after labor started. We had an even quicker delivery this time - just an hour and a half after arriving at the hospital. Good thing we live pretty close. He was 8 lbs, 2 oz and 22" long and he's perfect. I'm in love.<br /><br />These days, I waiver between ignoring everything else and enjoying the ridiculous amount of time spent nursing him, and stressing out about my work not getting done and the house being a giant mess. <br /><br />Big brother has been alternately adorable and incredibly aggravating. He's getting his two year molars and starting to be interested in potty training. He has gotten up at all hours of the night and rarely stays in bed the first time he's put in there. This is new. He's always been the perfect sleeper. Now he sleeps with a baby gate on his door, both to keep him in at night and to give me a little extra sleep in the morning. This is all temporary, I hope.<br /><br />The little guy is only waking once a night to feed, so I can't complain. I feel like we're already through the rough start and we can move on. I cope so much better with enough sleep.<br /><br />I don't imagine I'll be ambitious enough to get any quilting done anytime soon. I've really had the urge lately to make a ripple afghan of some sort <span style="font-size:78%;">(<a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/191121577906077862/">here</a>, and <a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/191121577906095476/">here</a>)</span> although, I don't know why, or when I might have time. I also have a quilt that I've been hand quilting for ages. Maybe over Thanksgiving I can get some work done on it. <br /><br />My latest obsession is photography, which is natural, I suppose, since I am at home with two little munchkins who are getting bigger every day. The Man told me I can get a new camera for my birthday/Christmas and I'm excited about that. I am hoping to buy the Canon EOS 60D. My Rebel has done well, but it is 5 years old and I'm excited to upgrade. I took a class from <a href="http://nicolesclasses.blogspot.com/">nicole's classes</a> last January, so hopefully I've made improvements over the last year and can continue to improve. I've been shooting in manual since the class and I feel like I've gotten the hang of it. I really just need to practice, since shooting a really fast moving target (aka toddler) isn't easy!<br /><br />So anyway, that's what is going on in my life right now. Perhaps I'll be back every now and then. We'll see.Barefoot_Daydreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09912552921395183254noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15600418.post-71433341863076608052011-09-17T13:18:00.002-04:002011-09-17T13:22:11.240-04:00More Washcloths<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdYoGEvmjLoLhoglnWHiARY23ofwPN1IwoeByWUVQCAF9AVYxf7qTXSlB_iHL2WHtcMo7IZxVHchWkYoFODWcElWZp50pXQmvmkGH8blVOyIFCL1rAVAVwvKllDdWlkqtCFb1CCQ/s1600/IMG_0708.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdYoGEvmjLoLhoglnWHiARY23ofwPN1IwoeByWUVQCAF9AVYxf7qTXSlB_iHL2WHtcMo7IZxVHchWkYoFODWcElWZp50pXQmvmkGH8blVOyIFCL1rAVAVwvKllDdWlkqtCFb1CCQ/s800/IMG_0708.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5653379140471355874" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb8OQbXCGqwg251CeghOLjm21bZPAAGsWL5WVbibq4NQlCwHnyF8BZyYTWzv-EcqqN-QrsvGF-r7eupmmFi8Jnk6YefkJcCZ95Ha83vM4LuXIxdCjNxFfk72nXL01qtVGDzFCxPw/s1600/IMG_0711.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjb8OQbXCGqwg251CeghOLjm21bZPAAGsWL5WVbibq4NQlCwHnyF8BZyYTWzv-EcqqN-QrsvGF-r7eupmmFi8Jnk6YefkJcCZ95Ha83vM4LuXIxdCjNxFfk72nXL01qtVGDzFCxPw/s800/IMG_0711.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5653379145641839490" border="0" /></a><br />Last night I finished up <a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2011/02/washcloths.html">another </a>stack of <a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2009/01/wash-cloths.html">washcloths </a>for this little one. It is super simple and I feel a little silly that I bought a pattern to make them, but whatever. It turned out just like the photo. They are so soft.<br /><br />Since the stitch is so large, they don't really hold a shape, but as a wrap for a photo, that works just fine. I did this one as knit. I had the super-large needles already, so I wanted to try it that way. It was easier to knit, since there's really no missing stitches when they're sitting on your needle.<br /><br />I had to search around for the yarn a bit, because it seems to be discontinued. In fact, Moda Dea doesn't even exist anymore, does it? Its too bad, because its so lovely and soft.Barefoot_Daydreamshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09912552921395183254noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15600418.post-47370343618124711542011-09-10T14:15:00.004-04:002011-09-10T15:11:37.255-04:00Striped Pixie HatsI made these awhile ago from a pattern I got from <a href="http://www.etsy.com/transaction/37137973">Etsy</a>. I don't have any pictures of them on, cause the Little Man doesn't leave hats on very long and of course, the other little man isn't here yet. But the idea was that perhaps I could get a photo of the two together wearing them. Wishing thinking, I'm sure.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyOfGts7SKR3pKi2EpzQSX97mQdCEYvMSS7irpd25BzGI9nDZaw6m7a8aPQn1WlSpdKI3w-pn7CKvemn0V8Q3gdK4GUXDz1hgHNsqxTAS9kif9sq6_MMKAf15EiGW0UJVpOYLfiA/s1600/IMG_0570.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: 575px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyOfGts7SKR3pKi2EpzQSX97mQdCEYvMSS7irpd25BzGI9nDZaw6m7a8aPQn1WlSpdKI3w-pn7CKvemn0V8Q3gdK4GUXDz1hgHNsqxTAS9kif9sq6_MMKAf15EiGW0UJVpOYLfiA/s800/IMG_0570.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5650809143447245026" border="0" /></a><br />But it was interesting to learn how to knit them. These two were knit on regular needles and sewed together. I don't like sewing knitted stuff up - mostly because I don't know that I'm doing it right. But since these hats won't get a lot of use, it will be fine. I just procrastinated on finishing them for a long time because I was too lazy to sew them shut. Sad, I know.<br /><br />Anyway, I'm stockpiling a few ideas and trying to think how I'd like to photograph the little guy when he makes his appearance. I'd love to hire a photographer, but I don't think I can justify it. So I will try my hand at it myself. I've got a few other things made up, like <a href="http://www.etsy.com/listing/33834553/knitting-pattern-number-103-rockabye?ref=pr_shop">this</a>, although I'm not sure if I'll be brave enough to try it. I guess it depends on how big this baby is when he gets here! <br />I am on <a href="http://pinterest.com/barefootdaydrms/pins/">pinterest </a>now, if you have any interest in seeing my pins. I'm avoiding looking around too much, because of the time suck factor, and using it more as my personal inspiration board. There's so much fabulous stuff on there, though!

<br />We switched the Little Man to a toddler bed a few months ago, so that he could get used to it before his little brother arrives. It went very well, except that the little monkey who never gives up now has an entire room full of distraction that he can use to keep from taking a nap. Sometimes this means his room is a disaster twice a day. Oh well. He does great at night and he entertains himself fairly well during his "nap," so I will be happy with that. The Man keeps reminding me that I can't make him sleep, and he's right.
<br />
<br />We also needed to get him a new dresser because we planned on keeping his original dresser together with the crib, since they match. We had a hard time finding anything that we liked, or rather, the right combination of price and quality.
<br />
<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilnTxcFw5nWSi_CrgoKLXn5G14nlUKllnYkS_WdHp13Gnj6O80hPHRK9vThdC28c_xnHuOBGZbx6tqTEk9OOaKh00YG3SPqVOsiuXOZYrdk3NGkw5CYxJffsG2JzoInYqHEmUiaw/s1600/IMG_0247.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 600px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilnTxcFw5nWSi_CrgoKLXn5G14nlUKllnYkS_WdHp13Gnj6O80hPHRK9vThdC28c_xnHuOBGZbx6tqTEk9OOaKh00YG3SPqVOsiuXOZYrdk3NGkw5CYxJffsG2JzoInYqHEmUiaw/s800/IMG_0247.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645624992991796354" border="0" /></a>
<br />So we bought <a href="http://www.amazon.com/DaVinci-Elizabeth-Convertible-Toddler-Cherry/dp/B000FTD1RA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314474313&sr=8-1">a toddler bed that we liked from Amazon</a> and went ahead and decided to go cheap and bought the <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90192047">Hemnes dresser from Ikea</a> to go with it. Since they don't match anyway, I wanted to try painting it. I did it a few weeks ago, and it wasn't really very fun to maneuver around my big belly. It took a few hours per coat, since I painted the insides as well, and I put on 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of paint that I think was supposed to be self-priming.
<br />
<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqYilnm-kSPCJth_MC_2ZdNhR37N0QESitZWF-BVgiTO9DrEWVcVRtMwZh3Mb2QU0SZDtvxWpe8z0voJg7_yQ0cCs1ln1ebWjNeG2hnzHxWsGlpTOZXVpN2KCpiQsY-6N1oCIzMg/s1600/IMG_0263.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiqYilnm-kSPCJth_MC_2ZdNhR37N0QESitZWF-BVgiTO9DrEWVcVRtMwZh3Mb2QU0SZDtvxWpe8z0voJg7_yQ0cCs1ln1ebWjNeG2hnzHxWsGlpTOZXVpN2KCpiQsY-6N1oCIzMg/s800/IMG_0263.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645624982833217010" border="0" /></a>I am really liking the paint color in his room. I wanted to use the London Fog (the gray I've been using in the bathrooms and on his little <a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2011/08/step-stool.html">stool</a>), but while it looks plenty dark enough on the walls of the bathrooms, its really pretty light on the stool. So I went a couple shades darker and used Plymouth Rock instead.
<br />
<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2IyNp0CxJJpVJx85MubgkL_NGfMGXxle9ETR6Gs7xhnjaqDf_6k-qrYjm6xCJQZt2cI-RIBR2_f5pGHpCv0K5g9-hgRqqwX4ybkf_oG8_AFf8H0FdzEXtAv-Yp7h6QtpBWdENKQ/s1600/IMG_0268.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 600px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2IyNp0CxJJpVJx85MubgkL_NGfMGXxle9ETR6Gs7xhnjaqDf_6k-qrYjm6xCJQZt2cI-RIBR2_f5pGHpCv0K5g9-hgRqqwX4ybkf_oG8_AFf8H0FdzEXtAv-Yp7h6QtpBWdENKQ/s800/IMG_0268.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645624980091385762" border="0" /></a>
<br />We'll see how well it really holds up to the little monkey over time. Its already got some chips here and there and the some has rubbed off on the drawers because, quite frankly, the drawers don't fit perfectly. I like the dresser overall, though. Hopefully he won't try climbing in the drawers, because they will never hold his weight!
<br />
<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOhgNHKcwbphJPzmPiWzKKNQg4dbe4fklFu1_0ZM8T7_I5it342UbtZeCagcn8VlfjJqvyXD8hkwEBQeB77n5BUXzQk_LIkfWOd4bvl7aIKAejLMsd-9voyexuI4pTYPIPz2MaPA/s1600/Benjamin+Moore+Paint+Card.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 285px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOhgNHKcwbphJPzmPiWzKKNQg4dbe4fklFu1_0ZM8T7_I5it342UbtZeCagcn8VlfjJqvyXD8hkwEBQeB77n5BUXzQk_LIkfWOd4bvl7aIKAejLMsd-9voyexuI4pTYPIPz2MaPA/s400/Benjamin+Moore+Paint+Card.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5645626640006741874" border="0" /></a>Anyway, hooray for progress! I just feel like I need to move some stuff on his wall now, but we'll see. Probably won't get around to that. Baby number 2 is due in three weeks!

<br />Our couch pillows were looking really awful, but the inserts were feather and still nice, so I made some new pillow covers.
<br />
<br />They definitely need to be removable and washable, but I hate how an envelope back pillow always seems to gape open in the back, so I decided to put in invisible zippers. I've never done that on a pillow before, and when I tried it on The Little Man's <a href="http://barefootdaydreams.blogspot.com/2011/07/catching-up-again.html">bean bag, </a>it worked okay, but not perfectly.
<br />
<br />This time I found several different YouTube videos to see how its done, because none were completely clear to me and I can never understand the product directions on traditional sewing supplies like zippers or patterns (<span style="font-size:85%;">is that just me? I consider myself intelligent and the sentences read like some other language altogether</span>). Anyway, it worked and it was easy. They aren't quite invisible because I didn't buy the special Coats invisible zipper foot and just used the one that came with my machine, but they're darn near invisible. Good enough for me!

I was sorta leaning towards buying the Sundial pillow from West Elm for out there, but decided against it, because it was just too much after paying for shipping. I'm pretty sure that these will be on the ground fairly often, as the front porch is an outdoor play area for the Little Man.

I like it much better as pillows, and since its "recycled" fabric, let him throw them on the ground if he must!
