China Cabinet

Shortly before we bought the house, a friend who was also moving offered us a china cabinet. Can't say no to free, right? And its nice as well and its been painted before, so painting it again wouldn't be a horrible thing to do to an antique. I think he said it belonged to his wife's grandma's sister at one time.

This weekend, I finally got around to painting it. It was not the easiest thing in the world to paint, and to be honest, I don't think I did my best work on it. All the different nooks and crannies make it easy to end up with drips. It turned out pretty well, though. I still need to scrape the paint of the glass and put the handles back on it.
Today we moved it upstairs and I started filling it up with all of my dishes. I'm not sure I like the arrangement, so we'll have to mess with it awhile, but its nice to have somewhere to display them. I've never had room to put them in a cupboard, let alone have them out where anyone could see them. Yeah!

Sleepy

Dutch just can't keep his eyes open for the picture.

This is how I'm feeling right now. No, this little guy does not sleep through the night.
Ugh. Good thing he's cute.

Puppy Love part deux

Hey hey hey! We have a puppy of our very own! He's just a tiny little chihuahua puppy and he just wants to be held and snuggled up. Silly boy. We picked him up today and had to make the necessary purchases for him. Everything looks so darn big, but we had fun finding the tiny little things he needs, like a fuzzy soft bed, a small fuzzy squeaker frog and a kong. Yeah puppies!

Dreaming

I saw this house somewhere in Maine while we were busy looking for something else and I made the Man go back and let me take its picture. I wonder what it looked like inside? It looks like it could be really fabulous if someone could come along and restore it. [sigh] I need a big ol house like this with the cash needed to go with it.

Birds Everywhere

My husband is a bird watcher (shh, don't tell). He had a copper bird feeder from a couple years ago that we haven't been able to use in our apartment. The other day we had to stop and pick up another one at Lowes, as well as a giant bag of bird seed.

Well . . . we now have birds galore and it appears that we could spend a small fortune feeding the little buggers. Our house must be a popular hang out and the feeder has to be refilled at least once a day. I think he's pleased.

Puppy Love

My sister came up right before we went to Maine, so we left a few days early to stop at Mom and Dad's house to see her. She just got herself a puppy and brought the lil girl with her. She has bat ears, but her personality is what wins you over. What a sweet little puppy! She was soo soft and cuddly and tiny and she has sweet little puppy breath, but she's also a little stinker! She raced around and harassed Mom and Dad's dog. How cute. I wanted so badly to steal her. I neeeeed. . . .

Furniture is here!

I finally got my new furniture! Yay! I didn't think they were going to be able to get it inside, but they did manage it, finally, by popping out the side windows. I didn't know the windows came out so darn easy. I didn't get felt pads for under the feet yet and I'm paranoid about scratching the floors, thus the blankets.

They are a bit bigger in the room than I thought they might be, but they are comfy. I still need a rug and a coffee table and some side tables for in here and its in desparate need of pictures to liven things up. We do have an entertainment center picked out, but it may have to wait a bit and I need to make sure it will fit. I'm on decision overload and I think I'm overthinking all these things, but I guess I'm a slow decision maker on "big" things. But we have somewhere to sit, anyway!
Oh, and check out the baseboards underneath the clock and then look at the floors. Yeah. Those look bad. The floors are a true brown and the trim is orangey. Those have got to go. That's on my to-do list for The Man.

Maine

I still haven't gotten to my pictures from Maine, but here's one. Mom came down yesterday and spent some time helping me get my kitchen put together and shopping for rugs and misc stuff.

This pic is from a shore path in Bar Harbor that we walked. It is lined with a couple large hotels and some really pretty huge old houses. Sections of the fence were starting to fall down and it was just pretty.

Scandinavian Blog Tour at Allsorts

I saw this posting the other day on bloglines for Allsorts' Scandinavian blog tour. If you have time, and I mean awhile, go check out some of them. The pictures are beautiful and if you follow the links, you could be there forever. Oooh. I got distracted on these kitchens that were linked in one of the blogs (don't remember which one). I've bookmarked a bunch of stuff to go back to when I have time.

I'm Baaack

Sort of. I'm home anyway. We left for Maine on Aug 28th and returned on Sept 6th. It was lovely. We brought home a cooler of lobsters and stopped to spend the day at my parents where I could get started on getting caught up at work and then we had a nice grilled lobster dinner with Mom & Dad and my brother and his family. That was nice.

I've got a billion pictures that I could share, but I haven't gotten that far yet. Unpacking and getting caught up on work are sucking up my time. So here's a little something. They are some sort of sweet pea (not the real, fragrant kind, more the weedy kind) and they are growing like crazy along the driveway. I picked up a pair of crystal vases on vacation and put them on our nightstands. The blue ones are reproduction ink wells that I also picked up on vacation as well and they are gracing the windowsill above the kitchen sink. After I bought them, I noticed real ones over and over again in antique shops but they were too much to justify purchasing any. I did find one that was only $2, so I snagged it and put some sweetpeas in my bathroom as well. My house maybe disorganized and dirty, but I have my flowers!

My hardwood floors are refinished and are absolutely beautiful! If you happen to be near Pittsburgh, I could happily recommend the guy. I washed and rehung the curtains that were already in the living room and we got a call last week saying that our couch and chair are in (several weeks early - since when does that happen??) so now I am in desparate need of some rugs to start to pull the living room together. Woohoo!
I'll be back later with pictures, hopefully.
