Flameless Candles?

So yesterday I got a bee in my bonnet about making some "flameless" candles. I've been thinking about buying some for putting in certain spots in the house where you wouldn't really want to burn a candle, or for using them outside at night. Or, I could light them up every single night I'm inclined and not feel guilty about "wasting" candles. Yes. I did say that. I have issues. I'm also too cheap to buy them and I wasn't sure if it was really what I was wanting anyway.

Then I actually turned on my brain for a change and remembered that I have hurricane wax downstairs. Duh. So I pulled out the candlemaking supplies and started making a grand mess with wax and molds everywhere. Ah. I've missed that. Except that now my kitchen looks like a disaster area. Oh well. I'll probably get sick of the mess and put it all away in a day or two.

So these are the the results. I have nice white candle "shells" and I've slipped a votive cup down in each one of them. Last night I put tea lights in there so that you can have a real flame if you wanted, but I'm also thinking about getting the little faux tealights that flicker so they would really be "flameless" candles.

Now I'm thinking about breaking out some more wax and making some more candles. Hmmm.

These candles say Beach

At least I hope so. My parents are going to be going on vacation this coming week and they'll be at the beach. I'm sitting here in cold, snowy Pittsburgh wishing I were going with them. So I am making a bunch of candles to look a bit "beachy" for my fireplace.

Stars in My Eyes

I still haven't done much Christmas decorating, except to put one of my candleholders on the mantel (its one like this) and put a red berry garland and a pearl garland around it with a few little Christmas trees and candles.

Today I was looking for something else and ran across this on MarthaStewart.com . Its for a paper star. I tried it with plain printer paper and it took all of 2 seconds and I think its cute!

I'm totally seeing this with white glitter and hanging a bunch of these from the ceiling. Of course, nothing ever comes out like it is in my head, but I still think its cute.

and Candles too!

Besides making quilts, I do make candles as well. Not that you'd really know it, since I don't think I've made any for the past year, at least. I really only make them for myself since when I've given them away, people burn them funny and scare me. I gave one to someone in a crock - I thought that was foolproof - and they told me later that they burned it on their dresser and fell asleep. The candle managed to catch the top part of the dresser on fire. Yeah. I don't like that.

Anyway. I was cleaning up the bookmarks on my computer the other day and found an old one that just said candle supplies. I discovered that it was for Early American Candle Supplies here in Pittsburgh. Yeah! Now I could go get wax and not pay for shipping, which is outrageous! So today I dragged my husband over to the shop to pick up a 50 lb bag of wax. I'm so excited to make more pillars!
